After weeks of uncertainty as to whether Leeton’s 2016 Show would go ahead, it was with great relief that six Leeton Mini Trotters and their keen young drivers took to the track at Lin Gordon Paceway on the 8th October in sunny conditions. Leeton’s 101st Show marked the commencement of Leeton Mini Trotting Club’s 2016 /17 season.
Two races were hosted by the Leeton Show Society on the Friday evening , with one of their tri-coloured Champion ribbons up for grabs – something all six competitors were keen to claim!
LMTC welcomed our two newest drivers for their first competition – Shaiila Ogilvie and Layla Forrest. Both girls are wished the best of luck for many happy years of mini trotting with the Leeton Club.
The first race of the evening saw Ryan Pitt steer Little Secret into first place , with his little brother Jed Driscoll on Nanna Smoke following him in for second place. The big grey pony Willie Wagtail was able to finish third with Siarne Deeves in the gig.
The second race saw My Little Rocket much more settled and first across the line with Nikkita Smith in the driver’s seat , while Jed and Nanna Smoke were hot on their heels. This meant Jed managed two seconds out of two races! Ryan had to settle for third this time.
Although not managing to finish with places on this occasion, Shaiila with Little Midget and Layla with Seven both did a great job on their racing debut – well done girls!
At the conclusion of the second race , all drivers presented their ponies to the Judges and each received a commemorative medallion from the Leeton Show Society. LMTC President Barry Pitt announced that after calculation of the pointscore , there were in fact joint winners of the Championship. Nanna Smoke and Little Secret managed to finish with a total of 10 points each. Well done Jed and Ryan!!
A massive thanks to Leeton Show Society for the invitation and opportunity to race at the Show and a special thank you to Committee member Bill Allitt for the great job he did calling the races.
LMTC will next race at Dalton Park in Griffith on Saturday 5th November – all supporters welcome!!
