Mini-trots ready to rumble at Albury

ASPIRING footballers have Auskick, growing cricketers the T20 Blast, but few would have thought there would be an avenue for budding drivers.

But that avenue will be on display at the Albury trots on Thursday night, as the resident Mini-Trot club takes to the track.

Drivers aged between six and 14-years will fill the gaps between the main races.

Albury Harness Racing Club president Sue Van de Ven said it was a great way for the industry to find up and coming drivers.

“A fair proportion of these kids go on to progress through the ranks,” she said.

“They have their own points system and even their own inter-dominion meet every year.

“They're racing in smaller gigs attached to ponies, making it a good introduction.

“We’ll have young drivers coming from all over the Riverina area for the New Year’s meet.

“It’s a great way for them to learn how to drive and get a feel for the way harness racing works.

“The kids love it.”
